Story:
On February 24, 2022, my mom called me, crying uncontrollably. She said she felt like she no longer wanted to live, fearing the outbreak of World War III. Born in 1936 in Luleå, she had personally witnessed the horrors of war as a child, remembering the German trains passing by on their way to Narvik and the internment camps nearby where Norwegian women, who had children with German soldiers, were held. Despite the rationing, my grandmother and her friends would leave food, knitted clothes, and toys for those in need. When Putin invaded Ukraine, it shook us all, but my mom’s heartbreaking wails left a lasting impression on me. Inspired by her and the timeless message of the Beatles' song "Imagine," I realised its relevance has never been more profound.
